Frequently Asked Questions

What is recovery in substance abuse?

Recovery is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential. It involves not just abstaining from substances but building a fulfilling, stable life with community support.

How long does drug therapy usually last?

Treatment duration varies by individual need. Short-term programs typically last 28-30 days, while long-term residential treatment may extend 6-12 months. Outpatient programs often continue for several months to a year. Research shows that longer treatment engagement produces better outcomes.

How is substance abuse treated?

Substance abuse is treated through a combination of approaches including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), behavioral therapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), individual and group counseling, family therapy, and peer support programs. Treatment is tailored to each person's specific needs.
