Accessing Treatment Services
Getting help for substance abuse or mental health challenges is an important step toward recovery. West Slope Casa coordinates access to treatment services throughout Colorado's Western Slope, making it easier for individuals and families to find the help they need.
Steps to Getting Treatment
- Recognize the Need: Acknowledging that help is needed is often the first and most difficult step. Signs that treatment may be beneficial include difficulty controlling substance use, relationship problems, work issues, or legal troubles related to alcohol or drugs.
- Contact a Provider: Reach out to a treatment provider in your area. You can self-refer or be referred by a doctor, counselor, court, or employer. Many people also come to treatment through family encouragement.
- Complete an Assessment: A trained counselor will conduct an assessment to understand your situation and recommend an appropriate level of care. This confidential process helps match you with the right treatment approach.
- Begin Treatment: Once you're matched with a treatment program, you'll work with counselors and possibly medical professionals to address your substance use and any related issues.
- Continue with Aftercare: Recovery is an ongoing process. Aftercare planning helps you maintain progress and connect with ongoing support resources.
Types of Treatment Available
Outpatient Treatment
Individual and group counseling sessions while living at home. Suitable for those with stable living situations and mild to moderate substance use issues.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
More structured programming, typically 9-12 hours per week, while still living at home. Provides more support than traditional outpatient services.
Residential Treatment
24-hour care in a structured environment. Recommended for those with severe substance dependence, co-occurring disorders, or unstable living situations.
Detoxification
Medical supervision during withdrawal from substances. May be necessary before beginning other treatment, depending on the substance and severity of use.
Paying for Treatment
Treatment services may be covered by:
- Private health insurance
- Medicaid for qualifying individuals
- State-funded treatment programs for those without insurance
- Sliding-scale fees based on income
- Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs)
Don't let concerns about cost prevent you from seeking help. Treatment providers can help you explore payment options.
